SteriPEN - Water Treatment

I found this cool tool the other day while browsing. An alternative to having to bring a good quantity of water treatment tabs. The SteriPEN is a UV light that you simply need to put in a water bottle for a few seconds and it destroys more than 99.9 % of bacteria, viruses and protozoan cysts such as giardia and cryptosporidia.  This technology is also used in many large cities of North American, Europe and Asia to treat their water.

The energy emitted by the UV light is absorbed by the cells of the microbes and prevents them from being able to reproduce, which is what makes people sick.
The process is simple and destroys practically all microorganisms. Purifying water with UV light offers many advantages. In addition to being safe and effective, UV light does not alter the taste, pH, or other properties of the water, and works without the introduction of chemicals to the water.

The tool as been tested in various conditions and is also proven to be resistant to falls of over three meters. There are many different models for many different uses. Prices range between 50.00$ to 130.00$ depending on needs. No bigger than a little flashlight, it does not add much weight to a backpack (approx. weight for classic model is 162g, and can treat up to 4000 liters of water).
